SLMC condemns Israeli attack on Iran, alleges Netanyahu seeking to cause chaos across the region

SLMC leader and Attorney-at-Law Rauff Hakeem has alleged that Israel was seeking to destabilise Iran and cause chaos in the Middle East.

The following is the text of the statement issued by lawmaker Hakeem as Israel and Iran continued to strike each other in the wake of Israeli strike on Iranian targets last Friday: ” It is utterly unconscionable that the Netanyahu Government, in continuation of its fleeting contempt, born of an entrenched culture of impunity for International Law, and the principles of the United Nations, carried out a series of air attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran on 13th June 2025.

It was a blatant attempt to destabilise Iran and create chaos across the Middle East and the wider region.

We unreservedly condemn these dastardly acts, so callously executed with the full complicity of Israel’s strategic patrons.

Iran has every right to defend itself against this aggression. Normalisation of the diabolical conduct of Netanyahu and his genocidal team which is responsible for serious atrocities committed against the people of Gaza and for the instigation of violence against Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem is far too dangerous for international peace and security.

Iran and every country in the world have an inalienable right to peaceful exploration of nuclear power. Iran is a party to the Non-proliferation Treaty and has accepted IAEA safeguards. No country has the authority to unilaterally carry out any armed actions against another country, for whatever reasons, shunning the path to diplomacy and negotiation.

We demand that the entire Middle East be declared as a zone free of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, and that the illegal occupation of the Palestinian Territory be brought to an end forthwith.”

Three Sri Lankan leopard cubs that were born at the Singapore Zoo on Jan 1 have now made their public debut at the facility.

The two males and one female, born to mother Yala and father Asanka, are the first of their species yo be born at the Singapore Zoo. The last successful birth in Singapore was recorded at the Night Safari three decades ago.

The triplets, which are the pair’s first litter, are among around 80 Sri Lankan leopards in zoos worldwide.

The species is listed as vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, with fewer than 800 individuals estimated to remain in the wild.

Visitors can now see the triplets at the Wild Africa exhibit, said the Mandai Wildlife Group in a statement on April 16.

The cubs can be found in the exhibit with their mother daily until mid-May and, subsequently, every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
