SJB: Those involved in Thajudeen murder cover-up now with govt.
Some of those involved in the cover-up of Wasim Thajudeen’s murder in May 2012 were now in the incumbent government, SJB lawmaker Mujibur Rahuman alleged yesterday (01).
The Colombo District MP said so in response to claims that Anura Vidanagamage, aka Kajja, who had been killed with two of his children in Middeniya earlier this year, was allegedly involved in the Thajudeen murder.
MP Rahuman said that in the run-up to the presidential and parliamentary polls last year, the NPP vowed to arrest those responsible for the Easter Sunday carnage and killings of Wasim Thajudeen, Lasantha Wickremetunga and Pradeep Ekneligoda. President Dissanayake and other senior spokesmen repeated the same after they won the elections but had not fulfilled its pledges.
Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickremaratne also blocked the no-confidence motion moved against Deputy Speaker Maj. Gen. Aruna Jayasekera not because the Opposition had an opportunity to beat the government but the fear the entire parliamentary group would be exposed.
The Speaker unashamedly facilitated the NPP’s political strategy, MP Rahuman alleged, pointing out that the government had in its ranks several persons who served the interests of previous governments. Therefore, the public couldn’t expect the government to go the whole hog.
Backhoe Saman, who had been recently arrested in Indonesia and brought back to Colombo, is believed to have ordered the killing of Kajja.
MP Rahuman said that justice couldn’t be expected from the NPP as long as those who had been influential during previous administrations hold key positions in the Public Security Ministry and police.
