National Organiser of the SJB, Tissa Attanayake yesterday urged the UNP seniors who felt the pulse of the people to joint his party.

Not all UNP leaders were however welcome, Attanayake said.

The new office-bearers of the UNP was an indication that the party had not learnt anything from the message people delivered at 2020 general election, Attanayake told The Island.

“The UNP used to one of the two main parties. It was the main partner of the yahapalana government. But at the 2020 general election it got only a national list seat. People wanted a change in party leadership. At least the party should have learned the message by now.”

Attanayake said the UNP should have formed an alliance with the SJB, but the arrogance of the UNP leadership stood in the way of it.

“When I left the UNP in January 2015, I said the party would soon die, if Ranil Wickremesinghe continued as the leader. My prediction has now come true.”
