Significant 59% jump in earnings from tourism in first 10 months of this year
Sri Lanka has earned over 2.5 billion U.S dollars from tourism between 01 January and end October this year, a significant 59 percent increase compared to the corresponding period of 2023, which amounted to 1.6 billion dollars, the Central Bank (CBSL) data shows. Sri Lanka has seen over 1.6 million tourist arrivals in the first 10 months of 2024, a 44 percent increase compared to the corresponding period of 2023. Only around 1.1 million tourists had arrived in the same period in 2023, CBSL data shows.Sri Lanka earned 185.6 million dollars from tourism in October 2024, compared to 136.7 million dollars in October 2023. The nation earned 181 million dollars from tourism in September 2024, data shows.
