Showers or thundershowers over most parts of the country
Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 05 May 2023 by the Department of Meteorology
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Eastern, Central and Uva provinces and in Mullaitivu and Polonnaruwa district particularly during the afternoon or night.
Several spells of showers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces and in Jaffna and Puttalam districts.
Winds will be south-westerly over sea area around the island and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (40-50) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambanthota via Galle and Matara.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambanthota via Galle and Matara will be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Showers or thundershowers are likely at a few places in the Kaluthara, Rathnapura, Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m. Mainly fair weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.

Mainly fair weather will prevail over most parts of the island. A few showers may occur in the coastal areas of the Western Province during the morning. Showers or thundershowers are likely at a few places in Southern province and in Rathnapura and Monaragala districts after 2.00 p.m.
