Showers in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts

Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 23 June 2023 by the Department of Meteorology
Several spells of showers will occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts while a few showers may occur in Northern and North-western provinces.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.
Winds will be south-westerly and speed will be (25-35) kmph. Fairly strong winds about (40-45) kmph can be expected at times in the Western slopes of the central hills, North-central province and in Puttalam, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
Wind speed may increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and up to (40-50) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Hambantota via Kankasanthurai, Mannar, Puttalam, Colombo and Galle.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times while the sea areas off the coast extending Trincomalee to Hambantota via Kankasanthurai, Mannar, Puttalam, Colombo and Galle will be fairly rough.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershower.

Showers may occur in the coastal areas of the Western and Southern provinces and in Puttalam, Mannar, Jaffna and Ampara districts in the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at most places of the island during the afternoon or night. Fairly heavy rainfall of above 75 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North-central, Southern and Eastern provinces.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
