Showers in Eastern, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa, Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts

Several spells of showers will occur in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.
Winds will be north-easterly and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Fairly strong winds about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times in eastern slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central, North-western, Uva and Eastern provinces and in Hambantota district. Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Pottuvil to Kankasanthurai via Trincomalee and up to (50-55) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam can be rough at times while the sea areas off the coasts extending from Pottuvil to Kankasanthurai via Trincomalee can be fairly rough at times.
The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Advisory for severe lightning for the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle and Matara districts
Advisory for Severe Lightning Issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 12.15 p.m. 06 December 2025 valid for the period until 11.00 p.m. 06 December 2025.
The public are being cautioned that thundershowers accompanied with severe lightning are likely to occur at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
The General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
ACTION REQUIRED:
The Department of Meteorology advises that people should:
Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
Avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and open water bodies during thunderstorms.
Avoid using wired telephones and connected electric appliances during thunderstorms.
Avoid using open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors and boats etc.
Beware of fallen trees and power lines.
For emergency assistance contact the local disaster management authorities.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Northwestern and North-central provinces and in Hambantota district during the early hours of the morning.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces and in Matale district. Showers or thundershowers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces after 1.00 p.m.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the other areas of the island after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
