Showers in Central, Western, North Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts

Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 07 March 2023 by the Department of Meteorology

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the afternoon or night and fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in these areas.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Central and North-Western provinces during the afternoon or night as well.

Several spells of showers will occur in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Matale district.

Winds will be north-easterly and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Colombo via Puttalam and in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Near shore sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Puttalam, Colombo and Galle may experience rough seas and surges due to increased wave period during the evening and night.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the early hours of the morning.

Showers will occur at times in the Central, Uva, Eastern and Northern provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Uva and Central provinces and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa districts. Several spells of showers will occur in Anuradhapura district. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 1.00 p.m. and fairly heavy showers about 75 mm are likely at some places.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa, Nuwara-Eliya, Matale and Polonnaruwa districts. Several spells of showers will occur in Northern province and in Anuradhapura district. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa province, Kaluthara, Galle and Matara districts.
