Share market investors agonize over possible policy uncertainty on part of govt.

Stock market trading proved somewhat dull yesterday as local and foreign investors agonized over the possibility of the current political crisis leading to uncertainty in decision making on the part of the state on policy matters in the future, market analysts said.
Amid those developments both indices moved downwards. The All- Share Price Index went down by 51.4 points while S and P SL20 declined by 28.95 points. Turnover stood at Rs 483 million with one crossing. The crossing was reported in JKH, which crossed 150,000 shares to the tune of Rs 30 million; its shares traded at Rs 200.
In the retail market top seven companies that mainly contributed to the turnover were; JKH Rs 61.1 million (300,000 shares traded), CCS Rs 33.6 million (600,000 shares traded), Hayleys Rs 31.5 million (321,000 shares traded), Commercial Bank Rs 20.5 million (201,000 shares traded), Sampath Bank Rs 17.4 million (221,000 shares traded), Hayleys Fabrics Rs 15.6 million (345,000 shares traded) and Royal Ceramic Rs 14.5 million (452,000 shares traded). During the day 18.99 million share volumes changed hands in 7900 transactions.
It is said that high net worth and institutional investor participation was noted in JKH. Mixed interest was observed in CCS and Hayleys Group of companies, while retail interest was noted in Industrial Asphalts, Browns Investments and SMB Leasing.
The Capital Goods sector was the top contributor to the market turnover (JKH and Royal Ceramic). The share price of Hemas Holdings increased by 90 cents to Rs. 81.40. The share price of Vallibel One moved down by 10 cents to Rs. 50.50.
The Banking sector was the second highest contributor to the market turnover (due to Commercial Bank and Sampath Bank) while the sector index decreased. The share price of Sampath Bank lost 30 cents to stand at Rs. 77.90.
Yesterday the rupee opened relatively stronger at Rs 304.20/35 to the US dollar, while bond yields were broadly steady, and stocks opened 0.19 percent down, dealers said.
The rupee closed at Rs 304.35/50 to the greenback on Monday. In the secondary market, yields were steady, dealers said. A bond maturing on 15.12.2026 was quoted stable at 10.75/85 percent. A bond maturing on 15.02.2028 was quoted at 11.85/90 percent, up from 11.80/90 percent. A bond maturing on 15.09.2029 was quoted at 12.00/05 percent, up from 11.98/12.08 percent.
