A police sergeant assigned to intelligence gathering at the Katana Police Station during the April 2019 Easter attack, has been suspended from service due to his failure to fulfill his assigned responsibilities.

Following an initial investigation into the sergeant’s actions, the police identified 12 disciplinary violations by him. Based on the findings of this preliminary inquiry, a charge sheet was issued against him. The sergeant, acknowledging his guilt on all charges, prompted the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to suspend him immediately.

Consequently, Police Headquarters issued an official order, suspending the officer from service, effective 14 June, 2023.

The Easter Sunday attacks, which occurred in April 2019, claimed the lives of 269 people, including at least 45 foreign nationals, three police officers, and eight suicide bombers. An additional 500 were injured.
