SC informs Parliament it did not deliver determination on VAT (Amendment) Bill
The Supreme Court (SC) has informed Parliament that it did not make a determination on the constitutionality of the Bill, titled Value Added Tax (Amendment), that had once been challenged before the Court.
Deputy Speaker Dr. Mohamed Rizvie Salih announced to the House yesterday that the Supreme Court had conveyed its position in respect of the Bill which had been challenged in the SC in terms of Article 121(1) of the Constitution.
The SC has communicated that since both petitioners in S.C. (SD) 05/2025 and S.C. (SD) 06/2025 opted not to proceed with the matter in view of the undertakings given by the State, the Court had not made a determination on the Constitutionality of the Bill, the Deputy Speaker said.
