Sajith, what are you doing?
Who is he? What is he doing? This was the catchy election slogan propagated by Ranasinghe Premadasa to win the presidential election many years ago. However, history shows that once ensconced in authority, his rule turned into a one-man-show which led to serious cracks in his government.
Is Sajith Premadasa following in his father’s footsteps to the letter? TV News broadcasts always show him alone at Sakwala functions. In his speeches, nine out of ten times, he refers only to his person, what he does and hopes to do. In other words, he does not share with his party the credit for his achievements.
Samagi Jana Balawegaya is an alliance and without the support, cooperation and efforts of numerous others, the party simply cannot sustain itself. Being service oriented is one thing, but being self-ostentatious is another.
There seems to be quite some bickering in the SJB, and the obvious one-man-show attitude could be disastrous to its performance at the forthcoming crucial election.
Obtaining 50% plus will certainly be extremely difficult to achieve for a party that boasts of a leader, who wishes to project his image and his success story. With just a few months remaining for the tussle to commence, it is imperative for Sajith to reform his attitude in the interests of the alliance in particular and the country in general.
I hope this will be considered as constructive criticism, which it intends to be.
