Resumption of Russian flights to Colombo throws lifeline to badly hit tourism industry
Russia’s Aeroflot recommenced operations to Sri Lanka on Monday.
The first Aeroflot flight since June 2022 landed at Bandaranaike International Airport Monday morning with Russian tourists.
The Russian House in Colombo said that Russia was a main source market for Sri Lankan tourism and that the recommencement of flights is a boost for Sri Lanka’s economy.
Aeroflot suspended its commercial flights to Colombo after Sri Lankan authorities detained its Airbus A330 jet on 04 June over a commercial dispute with an Irish company.
The Russian House said that the relationship between Sri Lanka and Russia will be further strengthened by the resumption of flights. (RK)
