Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday told the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) investigating the Easter Sunday attacks that he would reveal everything about the yahapalana government in a book.

The witness also said that President Maithripala Sirisena never had much support in Parliament and the only support Sirisena ever received was due to his (Wickremesighe’s) efforts.

Wickremesinghe said that he had held talks with various parties in Parliament, including the SLFP. The former PM said so in response to Sirisena’s statement to the PCoI, on Monday, that Wickremesinghe and the Cabinet had supported him only during the first six months in power.

“He never had much support in Parliament. I had to broker most of it. Actually, when the 2015 presidential election came around we wanted to build a broad coalition and some parties didn’t want to support a UNP candidate. So, we wanted a common candidate. We went and asked former President Chandrika Bandaranaike but she didn’t want to contest. Then we approached Sirisena as the common candidate. Everyone was upset that he went and became SLFP Chairman. What followed that was chaos. I will reveal it all in a book.”
