Police teams would be deployed from today to conduct random rapid antigen tests on trishaw drivers’ countrywide, police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

The special operation aims to monitor whether the three-wheel drivers were following health guidelines which were published via gazette to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the DIG said.

“It has been observed that the drivers of three wheelers do not wear face masks properly or disinfect their vehicles at least once a day. Their unhygienic conduct has become a serious threat. They have been summoned to police stations and given instructions but it seems that their adhering to the health guidelines is very low.”

Police arrested 29 people for violating the quarantine regulations that require the wearing of face mask and maintaining physical distancing, over the weekend while a total 2,578 people had been arrested since Oct 30, 2020, DIG Rohana said.
