Rain, rain everywhere, but not for CEB
By Ifham Nizam
Water level of the Maussakelle reservoir has dropped from spill level at 120 feet to 48 feet, a Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) official said yesterday adding that more rains were expected.
The Castlereagh catchment areas of Hatton, Norwood and Bogawantalawa have been receiving light showers recently.
Hydro storage levels in the CEB controlled reservoirs hadn’t improved much despite torrential rains experienced countrywide during the weekend, the CEB said.
Hydro contributes to the system energy mix is 8.57 GWh or 26.75 percent.
Despite countrywide showers, the CEB-maintained reservoirs hadn’t received enough rain apart from Castlereagh, a senior engineer said adding Castlereagh level had jumped to 30 from 20 percent, the CEB official said.
However, he said that some of the Irrigation Department-run reservoirs were brimful.
