Public Security Minister upbeat about mobile phones found in IGP’s house

Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala informed Parliament yesterday that two iPhones taken into custody from the residence IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon on Tuesday evening were expected to provide fresh information about the Police Chief’s activities.
Making a special statement, Minister Wijepala confirmed that Tennakoon had surrendered to the Matara Magistrate Court yesterday morning.
The Minister also stated that a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had inspected Tennakoon’s residence at No. 76A, 7, Seventh Lane, Gangani Gardens, in Hokandara, on Tuesday (18).
During the search, authorities found 795 imported bottles of liquor and 214 bottles of wine. Additionally,
a pistol-type weapon, suspected to be Tennakoon’s firearm, and two mobile phones were taken into custody.
Minister Wijepala noted that significant information was expected to be retrieved from the mobile phones, and the police would present the findings to the court in due course.
