Promoting international airports in the country.

Concessionary motivation schemes have been introduced by the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited with the objective of attracting international airline services for the Jaffna International Airport, Colombo International Airport (Rathmalana), and Mattala Rajapaksha International Airport.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Transport, Highways, Port, and Civil Aviation to further extend the relief relevant to the tax deviations for the said airports thereunder.

• Extension of concession of 50% fee waiver from the presently implemented  tax for the airlines operating fixed-time flights to Jaffna International Airport till 30-01-2026.

• Extension of concession of 50% fee waiver from the presently implemented  tax for the airlines operating fixed-time flights to Colombo International Airport (Rathmalana) for the period of one year from, 27-03-2025.

• Extension of the full concession relevant to the presently implemented  tax for the airlines operating fixed-time flights to Mattala Rajapaksha International Airport for a further one-year period from 29-12-2024.

Senior Journalist of The Sunday Island Zanita Careem was honoured  with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Journalism Awards for Excellence 2023 held at the Mt Lavinia hotel on Tuesday (07) night.

Zanita has been in journalism since 1970 after graduating from the University of  Peradeniya with a bachelor’s  degree in political science. She began her journalistic career at the Sun Newspaper as a Parliament Reporter and joined The Island Newspaper when it was launched in 1981. At present she is the Features Editor of  The Sunday Island.
