President off to France next week for talks with Paris Club members
By Rathindra Kuruwita
President Ranil Wickremesinghe would meet the members of the Paris Club next week, Cabinet spokesman Bandula Gunawardena told reporters on Tuesday.
Gunawardena said the President would be travelling to France and the United Kingdom (UK), where he would meet the Paris Club creditors to discuss Sri Lanka’s ongoing debt crisis.
Gunawardena said the country’s economy showed signs of improvement.
The Minister went on to say that Sri Lanka had been compelled to stop all infrastructure development activities and they could resume only after debt restructuring was finalised.
Sri Lanka suspended foreign debt repayment in April 2022, and in the 2023 Budget, the government limited capital expenditure greatly, given the economic crisis.
