The government will reduce the price of electricity when the next tariff revision is effected in January 2024, says Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera.

Addressing the media at the Presidential Media Centre (PMC), yesterday, Minister Wijesekera said there had been an increase in the hydropower generation due to prevailing rainy weather.

He said there had been a tariff hike in October because the CEB was generating more thermal power.

Rainfall is expected to continue for two more weeks, and they will decide on the tariff reduction based on the CEB balance sheet in December.

Hydropower generation accounts for 60% of the national power supply, according to the CEB.
