The Professionals National Front (PNF) on Thursday said that the government should have formulated a proper policy before deciding to ban agrochemicals.

PNF Secretary, Engineer Kapila Perera said that a number of individuals, including PNF member and Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) President, Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya, had urged the government to promote organic agriculture.

“Dr. Padeniya, as a medical professional, supports food produced organically. He also supports decreasing the use of agrochemicals. However, if the government wants to implement something as a policy, it must come up with a proper plan. It must not launch an important initiative and then say they went ahead because someone said so,” he said.
