The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) Regional Managers of Ampara and Polonnaruwa have been dismissed for neglecting their official responsibilities in connection with the Aralagangwila paddy storage facility.

Agriculture Ministry officials said that some 4000 kilos of paddy, purchased by the PMB in 2015, had been left to ruin. “This had been investigated,” an official said.

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera instructed the Paddy Marketing Board Chairman Neil de Alwis to initiate an investigation and take disciplinary action against the relevant responsible officers.

The chairman has instructed the Ampara Regional Manager of PMB to submit a report yesterday (06) itself.

The Paddy Marketing Board had informed all the regional managers that the old stock of paddy found in this warehouse had come from Ampara, and in 2020 and all the old rice stocks in the warehouses belonging to the Paddy Marketing Board had been sold for animal feed.

“If a public servant causes financial loss to the government and the country due to carelessness and inattention, he is not fit to be in public service,” the Minister said.
