Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday assured the warring port workers that the Eastern Container Terminal of the Colombo Port would neither be leased nor sold.

The PM said so addressing journalists at his Tangalle residence.

Responding to a query raised by a journalist during a press conference in Tangalle the Premier said: “The Opposition’s accusations are baseless. We will not give the ECT to anyone. We keep it under our control. We have never discussed such a move. There is no issue here. The trade unionists should have talked to me. The cabinet and the President are of the opinion that ECT should not be given to anyone. Selling national assets is not a policy of ours. It is the policy of the UNP. People voted for us not to continue UNP polices. I assure you that we will not hand over the ECT to anyone; we will run it.
