Parliament pays tribute to firebrand leftist Dr. Wickramabahu on his death
Parliament on Thursday condoled the demise of veteran politician and Leader of the Nawa Samaja Party Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa paid tribute to the late left-wing political leader on behalf of the SJB and the opposition. Premadasa said that Dr. Karunaratne had spent most of his 81 years courageously standing up for the political ideology he believed in.
Leader of the House Education Minister Susil Premajayantha also expressed condolences on behalf of the government. Minister Premajayantha described Dr. Karunaratne as a vanguard of left-wing politics in Sri Lanka. He said that Dr. Karunaratne served with him in the Western Provincial Council and though Dr. Karunaratne followed a left-wing political ideology, they got along very well. Minister Premajayantha said that Dr. Karunaratne’s death was an immense loss to the country.
