Three female domestic workers out of 11 employed at the residence of MP Rishad Bathiudeen over more than a decade, were now dead, the Police said yesterday.

Police Spokesman, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said that since 2009 a total of 11 females had been employed at the residence of MP Bathiudeen.

All of them were from Dayagama and had been introduced to MP Bathiudeen’s family by a broker.

Apart from the 16-year-old girl who died from burn injuries early this month, a female domestic had died of cancer, while another was said to have committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train, he said.

Senior DIG Rohana said that statements had been recorded from the other surviving females.

He said that out of the remaining eight females, three had claimed they had been sexually abused by the MP’s brother-in-law.

The body of the 16-year-old girl who died while being employed at the residence of MP Bathiudeen, was exhumed on Friday on a court order.

The court also ordered the wife of MP Bathiudeen, his father-in-law and brother-in-law and a broker to be remanded until Aug 9.
