National People’s Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has said that his opponents do not have any serious criticism against him or his policies, and therefore they are resorting to disinformation.

Addressing a rally in Nochchiyagama, on Monday (09), he said Sri Lanka needed to break from the political trajectory it had been on since independence.

“No one votes for a government expecting it to make things worse. But this is what has been happening in Sri Lanka since 1948,” he said.

“Ranil Wickremesinghe is trying to convince people that I am a good friend of his. He may think I am his friend, but I have never considered him as one. Ranil knows that the NPP is going to win and he is trying to see if he can come to a rapprochement with us,” the NPP leader said.

An NPP government will take Wickremesinghe to court over the bond scams, he said. In the past few months, the government has been handing over bar licenses to MPs, Dissanayake said. This too will be investigated.

“Wickremesinghe is also distributing hundreds of acres of Land Reform Commission (LRC) land to his friends. He will have to answer to this also under an NPP government. For the first time in post-independence history, the corrupt leaders will understand what being equal before the law means,” Dissanayake said.
