Moulavi arrested over bomb hoax released on surety of Rs 500,000

Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday released on a surety of Rs. 500,000, a 21-year-old moulavi arrested for calling the police hot-line and warning of an imminent bomb attack on mosques on the fourth anniversary of the Easter Sunday attacks.

Chief Magistrate Alwis said that the court felt that the moulavi, as a law-abiding citizen, had wanted to share some information he had received with the police.

Alwis also asked the police to withdraw the charges leveled against the moulavi under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).Police on 22 April arrested the moulavi for making alleged hoax calls over a possible attack on a mosque in the Central province.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
