Moragoda meets Governor and Chief Minister of Gujarat

Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India, Milinda Moragoda, who made a three-day official visit to Gujarat last week had meetings with the State Governor and the Chief Minister, a news release from his office said.
Meeting Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday at the Chief Minister’s office in Gandhinagar, the high commissioner congratulated the chief minister on his resounding victory at the recently concluded assembly elections. The discussion focused on the interactions between the State of Gujarat and Sri Lanka in multiple spheres and particularly in tourism sector, the release said.
“The importance of promoting the Ramayana trail in Sri Lanka among Gujarati tourists and the Gujarat Buddhist Trail among Sri Lankan pilgrims was also discussed,” it added.
Recalling how Sri Lanka and Gujarat signed an MoU on tourism cooperation in 2009 when he was the Minister of Tourism and Prime Minister Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat,ways and means to further enhancing economic activities and people to people contacts between Sri Lanka and Gujaratwas discussed.
Moragoda invited Chief Minister Patel to undertake a visit to Sri Lanka at a mutual convenient time.At his meeting with the Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat on Thursday (12) at the Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar a warm welcome to the visitor and a cordial discussion ensued. It focused on relations between Sri Lanka and Gujarat.
Governor Devvrat is a practitioner of natural farming, Moragoda sought his cooperation in imparting technical know-how to Sri Lanka on this method of farming. The Governor who agreed invited Moragoda to visit his 200-acre natural farm in Kurukshetra, Haryana.
Moragoda briefed the Governor about Sri Lanka’s decision to appoint an Honorary Consul in Ahmedabad to cover Gujarat and invited Governor Devvrat to visit Sri Lanka, the release said.Moragoda was accompanied to these meetings by Deputy High Commissioner Niluka Kadurugamuwa and Minister Counsellor of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi Gamini Sarath Godakanda.the Governor of the the State of Gujarat Shri Acharya Devvrat at the Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.
Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

Major May Day rallies in Colombo and Talawakelle

NPP, SJB and SLPP won’t have parades
The ruling party National People’s Power (NPP) will celebrate May Day at Galle Face Green in Colombo. However, the NPP wouldn’t have a parade, party sources said.
The Wickremesinghe-Rajapaksa government in 2023 made Galle Face Green off limits for political rallies. But the incumbent government lifted the restrictions in November 2024.
The main Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will have its May Day rally at Talawakelle town. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 2 pm with the participation of SJB’s coalition partners, including Digambaram, Mano Ganesan.
The SLPP, too, decided against having a parade this time though it will hold a rally at the Ananda Samarakoon Open Air Theatre in Nugegoda.
The SLFP will hold its May Day event at its headquarters on Darley Road.
