Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Tennkoon has slammed the Opposition for what he called despicable attempts to portray the incumbent government as a failed administration.

Recalling the crises caused by the previous yahapalana administration as a result of mismanagement, waste, corruption and irregularities, Minister Tennakoon said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa- led administration had to face the daunting coronavirus challenge against the backdrop of a weak economy.

The Minister said so early this week in Matale addressing a meeting called to discuss district development plans.

The Minister said that at the time the SLPP regained power the country’s economy was even worse than that of Afghanistan.

Alleging that the yahapalanaya administration jeopardized national security, The Minister emphasized how President Gotabaya Rajapaksa took tangible measures to restore public confidence in security.

Comparing corona first round and the ongoing second wave, Minister Tennakkon explained steps taken by the government to meet the threat while it continued with development projects (SF)
