Medical specialists warn of another Covid wave
By Rathindra Kuruwita
Another wave of Covid-19 will be inevitable unless the public acts responsibly, Dr. Lakkumar Fernando, the President of the Association of Medical Specialists (AMA) says.
The AMA has said Sri Lankans are now enjoying the freedom of movement and assembly following a protracted lockdown.
“However, the irresponsible and complacent attitude of some members of the public disheartens civic minded individuals who can sense the threat of another surge of Covid-19. Such behaviour not only undermines what we have already achieved but also sends wrong signals to the rest of the general public to follow suit,” the AMA says.
Dr Fernando has said that if people continue to behave in this irresponsible way, another wave of Covid 19 will be inevitable. Another surge followed by a lockdown will be the last nail on the coffin of an already battered economy.
“While welcoming and endorsing all measures taken by the government to step up border restrictions, as a professional organization we plead all citizens of the country, all opposition parties and other organisations to join hands to see an end to Covid 19 menace with responsible behaviour during this critical period,” Dr Fernando has said.
