Maris Stella recover thanks to seventh wicket stand

After being six wickets down for 50 runs at one stage Maris Stella fought back through a back to the wall seventh wicket stand to post 246 runs against D.S. Senanayake on day one of the Under 19 Division I Tier ‘A’ cricket encounter at DSS ground on Thursday.
The match is crucial for D.S. Senanayaka as they need a strong performance to climb up the rankings. They are currently placed eighth in the nine-team group points table.
They looked set to deliver a strong performance as they rattled the Maris Stella top order cheaply. But the seventh wicket pair of Safni Deen and Yohan Aloka put on 163 runs to defy the home team.
Deen scored 84 runs facing 149 balls while Aloka made 83 inclusive of 11 fours and three sixes. In reply home team were one run for no wicket in one over.
In a traditional cricket encounter, Thisara Dewdunu produced a six wicket haul as Nalanda restricted De Mazenod to 111 runs on day one of the match at Campbell Place.
