Mahela, Anusha best spikers at Super League Volleyball Championship
Sri Lanka Air Force spikers Anusha Abeysinghe and Mahela Indeewara won the Most Outstanding player awards at the Super League Volleyball Championship which concluded on Sunday.
The duo played outstandingly well for Sri Lanka Air Force women’s and men’s team to win the Munchee Super League titles. While the airmen beat Ceylon Electricity Board 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-21) in the men’s final, airwomen overcame a fist set defeat to beat Sri Lanka Army 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-20) in the women’s final.
The finals were played at the National Youth Services Council Indoor Stadium.
While Hirdaramani Sports Club were placed third in the women’s category, Sri Lanka Ports Authority were the third placed team in the men’s competition.
Anusha Abeysinghe won the most valuable player award in the women’s category.
In the men’s category, K. Perera (Best Outside hitter 2), Pasindu Chandrasekara (Best Middle Player), Maleesha Jayawardana (Best Setter) and Janitha Lakruwan (Best Libero) were the other airmen to have won individual awards.
Vidura Prabath (Best Hitter 1) and Malith Chamara (Best Middle Player) won individual awards for Ceylon Electricity Board.
In the women’s category Dinesha Prasadani (Best Outside Hitter -2) , Iresha Umayangani (Best Middle Player -1), G.C.G. Ranasingha (Best Middle Player -2) and W.P. Thushari (Best Setter) were the other spikers to win individual awards for Air Force.
For Sri Lanka Army, Thilini Wasana Perera (Best Outside Hitter 1), Apsara Sewmali Senavirathna (Best Opposite Player) and Thamara Kumari Disanayaka (Best Libero) won individual awards.
