The Maha Mahinda International Dharmadutha Society honoured 14 monks and a layman in recognition of their service in proliferation of Buddhism and social service at home and abroad.

The certificates of honour were presented to them by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at a ceremony held at the Temple Trees on Friday (09) to mark the 60th anniversary of the Maha Mahinda International Dharmadutha Society.

The Maha Mahinda International Dharmadutha Society was founded in 1963 under the leadership of Venerable Baddegama Wimalawansa Maha Nayake Thera. A considerable number of monks who are in foreign countries have completed studies at the Sri Lanka Vidyalaya Maha Pirivena and engaged in missionary activities as well as social services.

Buddhist monks from the United States of America, Great Britain, India, Japan, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore and China and an Indian layman who have been building friendship and mutual goodwill with the Sri Lanka Vidyalaya Maha Pirivena for many years have thus been honoured and gifted with the Sannaspatra. The keynote address was delivered by the American Bhikkhu Bodhi Nayaka Thera via zoom.
