LILI Cheese, a pioneer farmhouse cheese manufacturer in Sri Lanka, has developed a ready-to-serve whey protein beverage as a joint effort with the National Science Foundation (NSF)

Whey protein is a popular source of nutrition for sportswomen and children in a variety of forms. The objective of the research was to come out with a whey beverage rich in natural protein as the liquid base for a drink using natural fresh fruit extracts to formulate an acceptable product with high organoleptic characters for all age groups.

A broad and informal market evaluation was carried out and finalized the formulas tested and certified its nutrition content.

Whey protein helps to keep the body in positive protein balance and promotes exercise recovery, provide sustained energy and also help build lean muscle. The products also deliver nutrients and high-quality proteins to conveniently help bridge the gap between meals. It’s more suitable for sportsmen & women.

Lili brand natural whey protein, introduced for the first time in Sri Lanka, was developed with the assistance of the NSF. It’s made with whey protein extracted from fresh milk and fresh fruit extract, and is a 100% natural product without added water, artificial flavors, colors and preservatives.

NSF Chairman, Professor Ranjith Senaratne, said at the product launch that this is a milestone for the NSF and Sri Lanka’s dairy industry
