LG election before March 10 – EC

Chairman of the Election Commission Nimal Punchihewa said yesterday that the Local Government elections will be held before March 10.
He said that as the term of the LG authorities, which ended in March 2022 had been extended for a further period of one year by the then Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, as stipulated in the Local Government Act, no further extension was possible and the EC had the power to hold the election before 20 March 2023 and therefore had decided to hold the election before 10 March.
