Lankan HC in Islamabad facilitates donation of eye corneas to Pakistan
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad facilitated a donation of human eye corneas to Pakistan, marking the 77th anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka. This initiative was organised with the support of the Sri Lanka-Pakistan Friendship Association.
The eye corneas were formally handed over by Acting High Commissioner of to Pakistan, A. Christy Ruban, along with Defence Advisor of the High Commission, Brigadier Kaminda Silva to Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development, and Religious Affairs & Interfaith Harmony, Chaudhry Salik Hussain. The event took place at the national day reception on 04 February 2025.
Cornea transplants were performed for patients in need at the Armed Forces Institute of Ophthalmology (AFIO), Rawalpindi.
This event further strengthens the longstanding legacy of bilateral cooperation, with a total of 26,000 corneas donated to Pakistan over the 77 years of diplomatic relations, the Lankan High Commission said.
