Lanka delegation participates in 149th IPU Assembly in Geneva

The 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, held recently in Geneva, gathered over 630 parliamentarians from 130 countries, emphasizing a global commitment to parliamentary cooperation and governance.
The Sri Lankan delegation, led by Parliament Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera and Deputy Secretary General Chaminda Kularatne, engaged in various meetings, including the General Assembly and the Asia-Pacific Group meeting. The assembly featured significant representation, with 54 Speakers of Parliament, 36 Deputy Speakers, and 36% of attending MPs being women, highlighting efforts toward inclusivity in parliamentary roles.
Key discussions included exchanges with notable figures such as IPU President Dr. Tulia Ackson, Gender Partnership Programme consultant Brigitte Filion, IPU SDG Project Officer Consultant Isabel Obadiaru, and IPU’s Nuclear Security Division Director at the International Atomic Energy Agency Dr. Elena Buglova.
