Lack technique, application and dedication
Angelo Mathews made a comeback after missing the tour of South Africa and didn’t make an impact
In Galle, Sri Lanka took on England and ended the first day in a very sorry situation.
Winning the toss and batting first, in ‘home’ conditions, they were bundled out for 135 runs, facing 277 balls (not counting the no-balls and wides). In comparison, Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin faced 289 balls and remained not out at the end of the fifth day of the Third Test match between India and Australia, in Sydney last week! Vihari was batting with a hamstring injury. Curiously, both India and Sri Lanka were without their regular captains.
Perhaps, Sri Lanka Cricket should employ Vihari and Ashwin as coaches – they could show our boys a few things about technique, application and dedication that the present slew of foreign coaches seem unable to inculcate in our cricketers.
