Kilinochchi Magistrate orders police to halt digging site where Army uniform, skeletons were found
Kilinochchi Magistrate, S. Lenin Kumar on Saturday (07) ordered police to stop the excavations to determine whether a site where skeletons, Army uniform and equipment had been found in Vilavotei was a mass grave.The Magistrate did so after taking into consideration two reports by the Police and the Judicial Medical Officer of Kilinochchi.Last Thursday (05), the Magistrate ordered Kilinochchi Police to start excavations after visiting the site. A farmer detected a part of a uniform similar to the one worn by the Army and skeletal remains while he was preparing his paddy field. He informed the Police, who arrived at the site and found pieces of uniforms, skeletal remains and equipment. They said they believed the LTTE had buried the soldiers it had executed there.
