Inuki upsets top seed as semi-finalists found in Under 14 category
Inuki Jayaweera pulled off a stunning 2-1 win to upset top seed Ruvi Lewkebandara in the Under 14 girls’ singles as the semi-finalists of the Under 14 boys’ and girls’ singles of the ongoing Tennis Nationals were found at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts on Sunday.
After being beaten in the first set, Jayaweera fought back to beat Lewkebandara 7-5, 10-6 in the second and third sets. Second seed Dinara de Silva cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Akeesha Silva in her quarter-final while Arushi Thomas and Oneli Samarawickrama were the winners of their matches.
Samarawickrama will now meet De Silva in the semis, while Jayaweera is set to encounter Thomas.
In the boys’ singles quarter-finals top seed Lisal Goonetilleke and second seed Methwan Wijemanne both secured their semi-final berths when they beat Dhanushka Dias and Karthi Udayachandran respectively in their matches.
Yuthila Hettiarachchi and Tharuk Marasinghe were the winners of the other two quarter-finals.
