Injured fisherman brought ashore after emergency surgery at sea
The Navy brought ashore an injured fisherman, who had been aboard a local multi-day fishing trawler 259 nautical miles (479km) off Galle, the Navy Headquarters sources said.
The fisherman, who had been in a critical condition due to an accident involving a fishing hook, was rescued and treated, through the coordinated efforts of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Colombo.
He was taken aboard SLNS Vijayabahu, where emergency surgery was performed to remove the hook. Subsequently, the fisherman was brought ashore on 22 Dec. and rushed to the National Hospital, Colombo for further treatment.
