Indian High Commissioner calls on new Speaker
Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, met with the newly elected Speaker of the Tenth Parliament, Dr. Asoka Ranwala recently (28) at the Parliament premises. Parliament Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera, was also present during the meeting.
Parliament media division said that High Commissioner Jha extended his warm congratulations to Dr. Ranwala on his new role and emphasised the strong and historic relationship between India and Sri Lanka. He expressed optimism about fostering closer parliamentary relations between the two nations, through initiatives such as exchange programmes for parliamentarians and parliamentary staff.
In response, Speaker Ranwala highlighted his aspirations for deepening the ties between the two countries and unveiled plans to establish a Sri Lanka-India Parliamentary Friendship Association in the Tenth Parliament. This initiative, he noted, aims to strengthen cooperation and dialogue between the legislative bodies of both nations.
The discussions also covered key topics of mutual interest, including economic and trade collaboration and the exchange of technical expertise. Both parties reiterated their commitment to furthering bilateral relations in the spirit of mutual understanding and partnership.
