India bars UK Guardian journalist from visiting Colombo
UK Guardian journalist Aakash Hassan has been barred from boarding a SriLankan Airlines flight UL 196 scheduled to depart the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi on Tuesday (26) evening.Hassan tweeted that he was on his way to report on the developing crisis in Sri Lanka. Hassen alleged that immigration
authorities at the New Delhi airport took his passport and boarding pass and compelled him to sit in a room for four hours before he tweeted.Alleging that he had not been told why he was being prevented from leaving for Colombo, Hassan said that two officials questioned him as regards his background and purpose of his visit. Having held him for five hours, airport authorities have handed over his passport and boarding pass with a red rejection stamp ‘Cancelled without prejudice’
