Import medicine not eggs
It is not essential to repeat that many foolish decisions taken by the previous governments are causing immense problems. Now the government is going to import eggs from India in spite of warnings given by the Directress of Animal Production and Health. According to her there is bird flu in some parts of India and there is a possibility that if eggs are to be imported from India the local poultry industry will be affected. Instead of importing eggs from India it may be better to import poultry feed from countries where bid flu is not a problem and also promote local production of poultry feed.
Essential drugs are not available perhaps due to lack of foreign exchange. People affected by the kidney disease reported in Anuradhapura and Plonnaruwa Districts are in a desperate situation and some are dying because there is a dearth of essential drugs. The situation is the same in the case of cancer patients. Instead of importing eggs, the government should use the foreign exchange available to import these essential drugs.
