IGP’s assets to be frozen unless he turns himself in

Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala has said that movable and immovable assets of IGB Deshabandu Tennekoon evading the police arrest and those who aid and abet him will be frozen.
Speaking to the media after a meeting at Mutwal, the Minister asked Tennakoon to surrender to the police without further obstructing the course of law.
The Matara Magistrate’s Court ordered the arrest of eight persons, including former officers of the Colombo Crimes Division Deshabandu Tennakoon, on 28 Feb., over a shooting incident in front of a hotel in Weligama, on 31 Dec., 2023.
Sections 60, 61 and 62 of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act provided for freezing the assets of those who evaded arrest and those who sheltered fugitives, Watagala said.
“Tennakoon is supposed to know the law and rule that if he is innocent of the charges against him, he has no need to hide.”
Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manatunga said that legal action would be taken against anyone found to be helping Tennakoon evade arrest.
It has been reported that two Sri Lanka Air Force helicopter gunners and four Special Forces personnel have been pronounced dead after a SLAF Bell 212 helicopter crashed into the Maduru Oya Reservoir this (09) morning.
There were a total of 12 armed forces personnel on board the ill-fated aircraft.

The public are warned that the Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces and Monaragala and Hambantota districts.
The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.
Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
