IASL office bearers for 2023/24
The Insurance Association of Sri Lanka (IASL), the representative body of the insurance industry in the country appointed its office bearers for the year 2023/24 at the 34th Annual General meeting held recently.
IASL appointed Chandana L. Aluthgama Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Insurance as the President, Lasitha Wimalaratne Chief Executive Officer of HNB Assurance PLC as Vice President, Tanuj Edward Chief Executive Officer of Orient Insurance Limited as the Secretary and Nadika Opatha Chief Executive Officer of LOLC Life Assurance as Treasurer of IASL. J M Niyas continues in his position as Secretary-General of IASL.
At present, all 27 registered insurance companies are members of IASL and the association is led by the common objective of bringing the insurers together to create a platform for cooperates regarding the matters affecting the common interest and welfare of its members and is synonymous in its efforts to provide protection through insurance to the Sri Lankan public.
The Executive Committee of the IASL and Sub Committees concentrate on significant matters and new developments to the industry and is embodied with the General Insurance Forum Chaired by Kasun De Silva Assistant General Manager – MidCorp Business of Allianz Insurance Lanka Limited, Life Insurance Forum Chaired by Mahendra Wilegoda Head of Operations/Assistant General Manger – HNB Assurance, Legal Advisory Forum chaired by Kushan Weththasinghe Assistant General Manager Legal of Ceylinco Life Insurance Limited, Financial & Technical Sub Committee chaired by Samapth Thushara Chief Financial Officer of AIA Insurance, Marketing and Sales Forum chaired by Namalee A. Silva Deputy General Manager/Head of Marketing and Life Distribution of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation, IT Sub Committee chaired by Amal Dharmapriya EVP/Chief Information Officer of Softlogic Life Insurance PLC, HR Sub Committee chaired by Indika Bamunusinghe SVP/Chief Human Resource Officer of Softlogic Life PLC Insurance and the Actuarial Sub Committee chaired by Malaka Mihindukulasuriya Chief Actuary of Allianz Life Insurance Lanka Limited, operate within the purview of the Executive Committee enabling cooperation, knowledge sharing and transfer of best practices between peers.

Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district.
The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.

Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

PNS TAIMUR & ASLAT arrive in Colombo
The Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) TAIMUR and ASLAT arrived at the Port of Colombo on a goodwill visit on 12 Apr 26.
The visiting ships were welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in
compliance with naval traditions.
The duo of ships is commanded by Captain NIAMAT SAEED KHAN (PNS TAIMUR) and Captain NADIR MATEEN AFRIDI (PNS ASLAT).
Meanwhile, the ships are expected to conduct a Bilateral Naval Exercise LION STAR V with the Sri Lanka Navy in Colombo seas.
