Due to the wave-type atmospheric disturbance, showery weather condition is expected to temporarily enhance over most places of the island for the next few days starting today (14).

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces in the morning.

Showers will occur at times in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Mullaitivu, Matale, Polonnaruwa, Hambantota, Jaffna, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Mannar and Anuradhapura districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other areas of the island after 1.00 p.m while heavy showers about 100 mm are likely at some places in Eastern, Uva, Western, Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Winds will be North-easterly and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (40-50) kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai can be fairly rough at times while the other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate but temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers

The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Northcentral and Uva provinces and in Galle, Matara, Vavuniya and Kurunegala districts during the early hours of the morning.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the  Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and North-western provinces, and in Anuradhapura district after 1.00 pm. Fairly heavy showers about 50 mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Western, Eastern and Southern
provinces and in Monaragala district.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.


Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on
the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
