Govt. still awaits letter from Washington about aid cuts
Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Harshana Suriyapperuma, told Parliament, yesterday, Sri Lanka had not been informed in writing by USAID about cancelling projects with the government.
“After the executive order by the American President, pertaining to providing international aid, USAID has not informed us in writing up till now what will happen to the money USAID supplies to the Sri Lanka government,” Suriyapperuma told Parliament in response to a query.
He said USAID would officially inform the Sri Lankan government of any aid cuts as per the agreements it has reached with Sri Lanka. “As per the agreements we have with USAID on obtaining aid, if there is a freeze on aid, they have to inform us in writing,” he said.
