Govt. moves supplementary estimate for Rs 200 billion to meet cost of COVID counter measures

The government yesterday submitted to Parliament for approval a supplementary estimate to the tune of Rs 200 billion for the expenses incurred in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The supplementary estimate was tabled by Chief Government Whip and Highways Minister Johnston Fernando.

The expenses are related to the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines, Rs. 5,000 allowance for the low income families, and pandemic control.

Minister Fernando proposed that the supplementary estimate be referred to the Committee on Public Finance.

Besides, the Minister presented the Annual Report of the Ministry of Finance for 2020 to Parliament and it will be referred to the Advisory Committee on the Ministry of Finance.
