Govt. extends licence free rice imports till 10 Jan.
The government has extended the temporary suspension of rice import restrictions, permitting private importers to bring in rice without a licence, till 10 January.
Earlier this month, the Cabinet approved the temporary suspension of rice import restrictions until 20 December, in response to a rice shortage in the country and damage to paddy cultivation caused by the recent floods.
According to Customs, private importers have imported approximately 36,000 tonnes of rice since the lifting of restrictions.
